Procedure

ImpACT³ has three stages:

  1. A preparatory stage — the Summer School,
  2. An implementation phase — the team competition that follows; and
  3. An evaluation phase, in which the general public and the jury determine the winners.

During the summer school, which takes place from 22 - 28 August 2009 at Jacobs University in Bremen, the participants acquire relevant knowledge and competence to successfully establish a social business. Teams will be built, ideas developed and gradually refined. During the implementation phase (between 7 September and 25 October 2009) the teams will need to demonstrate their ability to identify needs, set objectives, manage processes, measure the results of their work, and mobilize target groups and support for their cause.

From day one the teams may use the impACT³ website as a supplementary or main marketing tool. They may wish to supply their ”fans“ with online information about their work in progress and first results. To this purpose www.act-for-impact.net provides various technical facilities: articles, videos and pictures can be uploaded easily and built into a teams web space; publication of press releases or blogs is also possible. Thus, the platform ensures a professional web presence for the projects.

During the evaluation phase the general public first nominates the ten best teams via a public polling option on the website: everyone who is interested can vote for her/his favorites on www.act-for-impact.net between 26 October and 18 November 2009. Therefore, the teams are encouraged to stimulate interest and support early on from family, friends, fellow students, sponsors, partners and beneficiaries; the initiatives and engagement of the students are also meant to motivate other civil actors and groups. An independent jury of scientists, entrepreneurs and change agents will determine the three winning teams from amongst the publicly nominated best performers.
